Our Story

Experience Driven Design

Bill Rapier is the owner and creator of Amtac Blades. Bill’s military and combatives experience includes: a duty assignment of several years at SEAL Team 3, and over 14 years at Naval Special Warfare Development Group. Positions held include assaulter, breacher, sniper, team leader, troop chief, and military working dog department senior enlisted adviser. Bill is a BJJ Black Belt under Gustavo Machado, he has trained with Sayoc Kali and Atienza Kali since 2005 and has always been an avid shooter and combatives student.

Unlike most knife manufacturers, Bill’s decades of real life combat experience was the driving force to develop sturdy, purpose built blades that perform under pressure.

Our systematic approach to all things pistol, combatives, and blades related led us to create the Amtac Blades lineup. Each knife is purpose built for heavy use, daily life, and combatives.

The Northman Beginnings

Amtac Blades started as a conversation between myself and my friend the “Northman”. I wanted a fixed blade knife that would fit in my front pocket to replace the folding knife that was currently filling the role of my cutting tool.

We talked for a while and then a few weeks later a knife showed up in the mail. Over the next year and a half, we continued to test, modify, and refine until we had something that met my initial vision. The Amtac Blades Northman.
